I don’t know about you but autumn is my favorite time of year. The crisp cool weather, the colorful trees and pumpkin spice latte’s really make me happy. And then I want to knit.
At the end of August, just when the weather starts to get chilly at night, I look forward to breaking out my favorite shawl.
A shawl is an easy project that you can crochet or knit in no time at all. Plus the shawl is so versatile it can be worn at the end of the summer all the way through the fall months leading into winter.
When I was first learning how to knit I didn’t like the business of searching online for a pattern and then making the rounds at the wool stores. I found it hard to determine what wool would work with what project and so I looked for kits instead.
The kits
And all roads led me to We Are Knitters. You select a pattern from their site and everything you need to knit the project is sent directly to your home, including the needles. Talk about easy!
One of my first projects was this scarf in orange. I still wear it 6 years later and I have since taught many of my friends how to do it. And you can knit it up in a few days depending on how much time you have.
If you are a little more advanced then this sweater is fun to do. Or, if you’re feeling a bit braver you can knit this scarf/shawl up. It is similar to the one shown in the picture – just omit the fringe if you want to do a shawl or keep the fringe if you want a scarf.
Another fall favorite is the chunky wool blanket and this pattern is one of my faves. Easy to knit, the wool comes in a variety of colors so you’re sure to find one that you like.
Although I have focused on knitting in my post, We Are Knitters offers patterns and video tutorials in both knitting and crocheting. For those of you who prefer crochet, click on the patterns here.
Happy knitting/crocheting!
