By all accounts, I think it’s safe to say that we are all suffering from a bit of anxiety. The Coronavirus has locked down countries, restricted and/or prohibited travel and caused stockpiling. Add to this the loss of jobs and a tanked economy and the anxiety mounts. And now the lack of cleaning products and hand sanitizer is adding to our fears. As such, I thought that I would share an easy hand sanitizer recipe from Hello Glow that uses essential oils.
Stephanie Gerber, who founded Hello Glow in 2011, has created one of my favorite websites for easy DIY beauty ideas and how-tos. I have her book and I highly recommend visiting her site. I’m sure you’ll find many interesting recipes there that you will want to try. In the mean time please click here for her hand sanitizer recipe.
Where to find the ingredients
All the ingredients for this hand sanitizer are normally quite easy to find at health food stores. However, considering our current COVID-19 situation, you may have some difficulty. As such, I have searched online for a good aloe vera gel which you can find here if you’re in Canada, and here if you’re in the USA. If you are against ordering from Amazon, do a google search for pure aloe vera gel or organic aloe vera gel. Since they are often cut with less desirable ingredients you want to be careful of what you buy. You can often find Aloe vera gel in pharmacies and Walmart but check to make sure that it is pure or 99% pure before buying.
Witch hazel distillate or distilled witch hazel, as it’s more commonly called, can be bought at most pharmacies as well as at Walmart. Just make sure that the ingredients include ethyl alcohol.
The essential oils used in this hand sanitizer can be found in most health food stores as well as many grocery stores and some Walmarts. You may also find them online in both Canada and the USA. In the USA you can also find them at Mountain Rose Herbs which has a well-established reputation for high-quality, organic ingredients.
If you live in the UK or Europe you can find the ingredients at The Soap Kitchen.
Although this hand sanitizer has been reviewed by the hello glow’s medical review board please also read my safety notes. Please also keep in mind that hand sanitizer is not as effective against the COVID-19 virus as frequently washing your hands with soap and water. Please read this for more info.
Safety Notes
